The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars will venture away from home to take on the True North Classical Academy Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Somerset Academy - Canyons will bounce into Friday's game after beating King's Academy, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. The Cougars took down the Lions 22-7 on Thursday. The Cougars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Somerset Academy - Canyons didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Javian Williams and Roodensky Renelus. Renelus got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, True North Classical Academy came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Generals to the tune of 42-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Titans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Generals are ranked 400th).
Somerset Academy - Canyons better keep an eye on Cecil Smith. He was instrumental in True North Classical Academy's win, rushing for 101 yards and one touchdown, while also picking up 100 receiving yards and one TD. Smith was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 57 yards. True North Classical Academy also got a significant boost from Gregory Florence, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.
True North Classical Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 240 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 181 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
One reason for the win was True North Classical Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Keyon Smith got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
True North Classical Academy's record now sits at 4-2. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-4.
Somerset Academy - Canyons couldn't quite get it done against True North Classical Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2024 as they fell 28-17. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
