Football Recap: South Vermillion Starts Season with Win on the Road

South Vermillion had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the West Vigo Vikings 20-19. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

South Vermillion's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Shryock, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 27 yards and one TD. Shryock didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why West Vigo lost, don't look at Ryan Cobb. Despite the final result, he rushed for 125 yards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Vermillion will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Sullivan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Vigo, they will square off against Parke Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
