Baseball Recap: River Valley Comes Up Short

River Valley had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 10-15 to make it four. They came up short against the Michigan Lutheran Titans, falling 6-0. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly six runs.

As for Michigan Lutheran, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

For Michigan Lutheran's part, Ben Liebich was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. Liebich has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Michigan Lutheran's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 8-1 (and 9-12 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Colton Stegman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. River Valley will take on Coloma at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Michigan Lutheran, they will challenge Berrien Springs at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
