Baseball Recap: Monterey Comes Up Short

Monterey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Tascosa Rebels. The Plainsmen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2021.

Monterey got a good showing from Jamiah Martinez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Martinez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jaivyth Cruz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brent Sanders, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Monterey's loss dropped their record down to 3-19-1. As for Tascosa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

While Monterey had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
