Softball Recap: Mott Corsairs vs. Lakeland Eagles

Mott had lost 21 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-20 to make it 22. They lost 14-3 to the Lakeland Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Corsairs have lost by exactly 11 runs.

As for Lakeland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

For Lakeland's part, Meredith Peterson looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Peterson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Miles and Aubrey VanGoethem did most of the damage at the plate: Miles went 1-for-2 with one home run, while VanGoethem went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI VanGoethem has posted over her last 12 matches. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Goldman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mott will head out to challenge Novi at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lakeland, they will venture away from home to take on Walled Lake Western at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
