The Ironton Fighting Tigers will head out to square off against the Huntington Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Huntington took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Ironton, who comes in off a win.
Huntington will be up against a hot Ironton team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Ironton's way against Portsmouth on Friday as Ironton made off with a 13-3 victory.
Ava Bihl was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Bihl was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ironton got a massive performance out of Miley Bias, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Aubrey Ferguson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Ironton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Huntington scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 14-7 to Logan. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Huntington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layla Crickard, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Crickard is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Dannilynn Kendrick also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Ironton pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.the team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team won's by an average of 9.2 runs thus far As for Huntington, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Huntington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Ironton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game.
