Softball Recap: Coalfield Snags Ninth Win in Last 12 Games

Coalfield hadn't done well against Oliver Springs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets blew past the Bobcats 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Olivia Laymance made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Laymance was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Coalfield got a big performance out of Lilly Claire Lowe, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Gracie Davis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Coalfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.

Coalfield is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Oliver Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

Coalfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oliver Springs, they will take on Wartburg Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
