Basketball Game Preview: Washington Generals vs. Starkville Academy Volunteers

The Washington Generals will head out to challenge the Starkville Academy Volunteers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Washington took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past St. Joseph 35-32.

Meanwhile, Starkville Academy had already won six in a row and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They managed a 62-56 victory over the Mustangs. Given the Volunteers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Starkville Academy pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Washington, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Washington was dealt a bruising 56-17 loss at the hands of Starkville Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2023. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Washington was down 33-11.
