Softball Recap: Christ Presbyterian Academy Comes Up Short

Christ Presbyterian Academy dropped their record down to 13-6 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Brentwood Bruins by a score of 8-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 16-9 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Nealy McCluskey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ansley Crawford also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Brentwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Brentwood's side, Marina Mason made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits. Mason has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Bella Black was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lila Driver was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Christ Presbyterian Academy has already played their next game, an 8-4 victory against Brentwood Academy on the 5th. As for Brentwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Franklin on the 2nd.
