League recap: Midpark win leads to rise in state rank

Southwestern recap Sept. 26, 2012

Midpark moved up to 200 from 253 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern. A 39-28 win over the Meteors helped the Meteors improve their standing.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bees triumphed over Olmsted Falls 50-20.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights' dynamic duo of Tom Tupa and Tim Tupa proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Tupa threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns and Tupa had 135 yards receiving. Tyler Tarnowski helped Brecksville-Broadview Heights' passing attack out by catching six balls for 66 yards.

Jordan Irvin was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 129 yards on 32 carries as Steele defeated Olmsted Falls. Teammate Derek Eibon added to the ground attack by rushing for 12 yards.

The Bees' Tupa and Tarnowski have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Southwestern in both passing and receiving yards. Tupa has thrown for 1657 yards this season, while Tarnowski, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 33 catches for 504 yards. The Comets' Irvin leads the league in rushing yards with 468.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brecksville-Broadview Heights takes on North Olmsted. As it stands, the Bees are in sixth, while the Eagles are in second.

North Olmsted and Westlake played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with North Olmsted eventually emerging with a 18-15 victory.
