Softball Game Preview: Chula Vista Spartans vs. Hilltop Lancers

Chula Vista hasn't had much luck against Hilltop recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 3:30 p.m.

On Friday, Chula Vista came up short against Mar Vista and fell 10-7. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Hilltop made easy work of San Diego on Monday and carried off a 7-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Cavers: they've now won three in a row.

Catherine Vasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

At the plate, Kaylani Sablan was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Olivia Mertz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Chula Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Hilltop, they now have a winning record of 12-11-1.

Chula Vista skirted past Hilltop 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
