Basketball Recap: Nickerson Falls to Buhler in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Nickerson kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were dealt a 67-13 loss at the hands of the Buhler Crusaders. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.

Nickerson's loss came despite strong showings from Austin Peterson and Noah Weber. Peterson posted four points and six rebounds, while Weber had no points.

Buhler was led to victory by Brycen McCurdy and Asher Zachary. McCurdy shot 75% from the field on his way to 22 points along with five boards and three steals, while Zachary went 6-for-7 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Zachary a new career-high in field goal percentage (86%). Another player making a difference was Luke Holmberg, who scored ten points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Nickerson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-31 loss against St. John on the 8th. As for Buhler, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Goddard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
