The Jefferson County Tigers and the Bell Bulldogs will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Jefferson County took a loss when they played away from home back in November, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They had just enough and edged Altha out 30-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since January 5th.

Jefferson County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Haley Schmigel out in front who scored 13 points in addition to six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hope Steen, who scored 11 points.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, Bell came out on top. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 33-31 victory over Saint Francis Catholic on Friday. The score was all tied up 11-11 at the break, but the Bulldogs were the better team in the second half.

Bell's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Maddie Smith, who went 8 for 16 en route to 19 points plus two steals, and Dacy Graham, who scored seven points along with 19 rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Bell's points.

Bell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

Bell now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Jefferson County, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
