Baseball Game Preview: Jasper Bulldogs vs. Lumberton Raiders

The Jasper Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Lumberton Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jasper is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Jasper fell victim to Lumberton and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 14-0.

For Lumberton's part, Hudson Emerson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Furthermore, Emerson didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Harmse, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and two doubles. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Luke Cody was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Lumberton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Lumberton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. Jasper's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
