Softball Game Preview: Middlesex Chargers vs. Rappahannock Raiders

Middlesex hasn't had much luck against Rappahannock recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Chargers will challenge the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Middlesex sitting on four straight victories and Rappahannock on eight.

Rappahannock's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Middlesex hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over West Point on Thursday. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Magen Daniels was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. Those 19 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

Daniels wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Courtney Jessie, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Rappahannock gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Lancaster.

Rappahannock's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Middlesex, their record is now 11-5.
