The West Point-Beemer Cadets are taking a road trip to face off against the Clarkson/Leigh Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Point-Beemer is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
West Point-Beemer is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Howells-Dodge on Tuesday. The Cadets took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. That's two games in a row now that the Cadets have lost by exactly four points.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Peyton Penrose, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 14 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Hunter Swanson, who posted 14 points and six assists.
Meanwhile, Clarkson/Leigh was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 48-44 to Battle Creek. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like West Point-Beemer, Clarkson/Leigh lost despite seeing results from several players. Kyle McMullin led the charge by dropping a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. McMullin is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. Easton Brabec was another key player, shooting 55% from the field en route to 14 points.
West Point-Beemer's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Clarkson/Leigh, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Point-Beemer has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Clarkson/Leigh struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 35.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything went West Point-Beemer's way against Clarkson/Leigh when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as West Point-Beemer made off with a 55-29 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cadets since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
