Basketball Recap: Springfield Southeast Makes It Seven in a Row on the Road

On MondaySpringfield Southeast's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mt. Zion Braves, sneaking past 45-42. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Braves are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springfield Southeast pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.9 points. As for Mt. Zion, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield Southeast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mt. Zion, they will head out to take on Mattoon at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
