Baseball Game Preview: Ware Shoals Hornets vs. Whitmire Wolverines

For the second straight game, Ware Shoals will face off against Whitmire. The Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ware Shoals is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

Whitmire hit Ware Shoals with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets fell 6-3 to the Wolverines. Hornets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Wolverines since on Tuesday.

For Whitmire's part, Crue Keller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Xzye Stephens was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Whitmire is 2-1 when Stephens posts three or more RBI, but 6-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Stribble, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

The defeat snapped Ware Shoals' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-6 record. As for Whitmire, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.

Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ware Shoals has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Whitmire struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
