Volleyball Recap: Stratton Gets Past Springfield

Stratton had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Springfield Longhorns on Friday.

Stratton had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final set scores wound up at 19-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14.

Stratton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gracie Miltenberger out in front who had nine digs, eight kills, and two aces. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Henschel, who had 21 digs.

Springfield's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Mackey, who had 23 digs and 10 kills. Jaylee Mort was another key player, getting six digs, five kills, five solo blocks, and three aces.

Springfield is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Stratton will take on Deer Trail at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give Stratton their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Springfield, their homestand will continue as they prepare to take on Walsh at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
