Basketball Recap: Carson Payne Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Walnut Grove Christian

Grace Academy lost to Walnut Grove Christian back in December of 2015, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Grace Academy Lions came out on top against the Walnut Grove Christian Christian Warriors by a score of 81-73.

Grace Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carson Payne, who posted 23 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lucas Borans, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 boards.

Walnut Grove Christian's loss came despite strong showings from AJ Curerton and Jack Bonagura. Curerton scored 24 points, while Bonagura put up 21 points. Curerton's evening made it 17 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Thomason, who had 14 points.

Grace Academy's victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Walnut Grove Christian, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grace Academy will take on South Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 75.7 points per game this season. As for Walnut Grove Christian, they will challenge Lab University Prep Varsity at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Walnut Grove Christian also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 66.5 points per game.
