Softball Recap: Marian Central Catholic's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Marian Central Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Chicago Christian Knights by a score of 4-1. This was payback for the Hurricanes, who suffered a 10-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Christine Chmiel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lina Conner was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mia Convey, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Marian Central Catholic pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Chicago Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-18.

Looking ahead, Chicago Christian will challenge Aurora Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. Marian Central Catholic will be paying especially close attention to Chicago Christian's contest: after Chicago Christian faces off against Aurora Christian, they'll take on Marian Central Catholic again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
