The Valley Lutheran Chargers will square off against the Hemlock Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are still undefeated after three games, but that won't be the case come Tuesday.
Valley Lutheran let Chesaning stack seven runs on them in the sixth inning on Wednesday but luckily Valley Lutheran prevailed anyway. The Chargers came out on top against the Indians by a score of 12-8.
Axel Schuette and Jacob Grimpo made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Schuette struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Grimpo tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Schuette went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Grimpo went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Valley Lutheran let Ryan Pittman and Ben Diener run wild. Pittman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI, while Diener went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Valley Lutheran kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Hemlock got themselves on the board against Ithaca on Thursday, but Ithaca never followed suit. They blew past the Yellowjackets 15-0. Fans of the Huskies have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Hemlock pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 18.0 runs this season. As for Valley Lutheran, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Valley Lutheran skirted past Hemlock 7-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
