Basketball Recap: Cary Academy Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Cary Academy and Charlotte Latin squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Cary Academy had to settle for second. The matchup between them and the Charlotte Latin Hawks didn't end well, with the Cary Academy Chargers falling 50-32. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Hawks are ranked 68th).

Cary Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Gabrielle Young and Annalise Dematteis. Young posted 17 points, while Dematteis put up seven points and five boards. Young's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points.

Cary Academy dropped their record down to 10-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Charlotte Latin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Cary Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Charlotte Latin, they will challenge Providence Day at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Providence Day will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Charlotte Latin surely won't give up without a fight.
