Preview: Davis Darts vs. Olympus Titans
Davis is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Olympus is on a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Davis Darts will be home for the holidays to greet the Olympus Titans at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Davis is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Olympus in Utah (Davis is ranked second, while Olympus is ranked 46th).
Last Thursday, Davis strolled past American Fork with points to spare, taking the game 48-34.
Davis' success was spearheaded by the efforts of T'Maea Eteuati, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, and Kendra Kitchen, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Eteuati pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Richards, who scored seven points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Olympus might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Mountain Ridge an easy 61-39 win.
The losing side was boosted by Keily Trabanino, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals. She scored a full 43.6% of Olympus' points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Joss Baker, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Olympus were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Davis' win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Olympus, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Davis have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Olympus, though, as they've been averaging only 26.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Davis was able to grind out a solid victory over Olympus in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 47-37. Does Davis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Olympus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
