Softball Recap: Jacksonville Comes Up Short

Jacksonville fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against J.H. Rose on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rampants by a score of 4-3. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Rampants when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lauren Weston spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jacksonville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Kellum, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Jacksonville's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for J.H. Rose, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jacksonville will square off against Havelock at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for J.H. Rose, they will face off against Greene Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rampants are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
