The Jones Trojans will head out to take on the Bay City Blackcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jones is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Jones is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against La Vernia on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Trojans were beaten by the Bears 55-14. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 763rd, while the Bears are ranked 201st).
Although Jones took the loss, they still got scores from Preston Alvarado and Rudolfo Villarreal.
Jones' defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. Jayce Foster was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself.
Meanwhile, Bay City hadn't done well against El Campo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Blackcats took down the Ricebirds 35-17. The Blackcats have beaten the Ricebirds the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Ricebirds has come to flipping the script.
Jones better keep an eye on Keimarion Wiggins. He was instrumental in Bay City's win, rushing for 129 yards and two scores on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 70 yards and one TD on only five passes. Those 129 rushing yards gave Wiggins a new career-high. Aiden Williams was another key player, rushing for 76 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.
One reason for the win was Bay City's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Jordan Oneal refused to say out of the backfield, picking up three sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks and making nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Bay City's record is now 6-2. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Jones was taken down by Bay City 50-6 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Trojans were down 27-6.
