Basketball Recap: Rocky Ford Meloneers vs. Swink Lions
Rocky Ford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Swink Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 75-53 last Tuesday.

Despite the defeat, Rocky Ford saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shayne Gonzales posted 19 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gonzales has scored all season. Swink's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nate Cabrera, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Cabrera is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Nick Paolucci was another key player, putting up 15 points and seven rebounds.
Rocky Ford's loss dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Swink, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-14 record this season.
