Softball Recap: James Monroe Starts Season with Win on the Road

James Monroe had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Liberty Raiders 4-2. This was payback for the Mavericks, who suffered an 11-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Bryleigh Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, Peighton Griffith was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Dowdy, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Coincidentally, James Monroe and Liberty will both be playing Woodrow Wilson the next time they take the field. Liberty will host Woodrow Wilson at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while James Monroe will host them at 5:30 p.m. on March 26th.
