Basketball Recap: Bayside Falls Despite Big Games from Omar Clarke and Mason Derrickson

Bayside was the 54-47 winner over Melbourne when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Bayside Bears took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Melbourne Bulldogs on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 114th).

Mason Derrickson and Omar Clarke certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Derrickson went 7 of 11 en route to 17 points, while Clarke went 7 of 17 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Contella, who posted six points.

This is the second loss in a row for Bayside and nudges their season record down to 5-2. As for Melbourne, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-1.

Bayside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 72-68 defeat against Celebration on the 6th. As for Melbourne, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-54 victory against Vero Beach on the 9th.
