Softball Recap: Hackleburg Drops Highest Score of Season Against Phillips

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hackleburg). They put the hurt on the Phillips Bears with a sharp 21-0 win on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ellie Nichols made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Saylor Cooper and Braylynn Pope did most of the damage at the plate: Cooper went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Pope went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Raegan Pharr also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Hackleburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Hackleburg's record is now 15-5. As for Phillips, they dropped their record down to 0-13 with the loss, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

When Hackleburg and Phillips next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Panthers will try to stop Sulligent's five-game winning streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Phillips will face off against Winfield and their six-game winning streak at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
