Bellevue West hadn't done well against Grand Island recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds came out on top in a nail-biter against the Islanders, sneaking past 9-8. For the Thunderbirds, this counts as revenge for the 7-6 victory the Islanders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2023.
Grace Veik made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Veik was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Aubrey Busch was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Jaycee Woodard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Bellevue West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Bellevue West's record is now 10-21. As for Grand Island, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-23.
