Baseball Game Preview: Farmington Scorpions vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

The Farmington Scorpions will venture away from home to challenge the Piedra Vista Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedra Vista took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Farmington, who comes in off a win.

Farmington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Cibola, who was ranked eighth at the time (Farmington was ranked ninth). The Scorpions skirted past the Cougars 11-10.

Meanwhile, Piedra Vista lost a heartbreaker to Rio Rancho when they met back in March of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. The Panthers fell just short of the Rams by a score of 8-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost five in a row.

Farmington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Piedra Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.

Farmington came out on top in a nail-biter against Piedra Vista in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Scorpions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
