Softball Game Preview: West Mifflin Titans vs. Elizabeth Forward Warriors

West Mifflin is 0-10 against Elizabeth Forward since May of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Titans will take on the Warriors at 4:15 p.m. West Mifflin is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

West Mifflin proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Laurel Highlands 3-2.

RYLIE DOBNAK spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, West Mifflin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was SAMANTHA TOMKO, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Elizabeth Forward's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Belle Vernon by a score of 6-4. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Addy Nigut made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

West Mifflin's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Elizabeth Forward, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Mifflin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Elizabeth Forward struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

West Mifflin might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Elizabeth Forward when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
