Basketball Game Preview: Horizon Hawks vs. Legacy Lightning

Horizon has gone 9-1 against Legacy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Horizon Hawks will venture away from home to take on the Legacy Lightning at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Tuesday, Horizon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-54 to Holy Family. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Horizon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaitlin Schumann, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds, and Bella Alvarado, who went 7 for 10 on her way to 19 points. Those 16 boards gave Schumann a new career-high.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Legacy's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were dealt a 66-28 defeat at the hands of Frederick. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Lightning have suffered since January 20, 2024.

Horizon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Legacy, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 8-6.

Horizon was able to grind out a solid win over Legacy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 58-47. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Legacy's Olivia Mortensen, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds.
