Baseball Recap: Burke Comes Up Short

Burke lost against Gretna East back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Burke came up short against Gretna East, falling 17-10. One positive for the Bulldogs, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Brayden Pickett and Alec Carlson did some serious damage despite the final result: Pickett scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Carlson scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Carlson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rigley Renbarger, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Burke always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Burke's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Gretna East, their record now sits at 3-1.

Coincidentally, Burke and Gretna East will both be playing Adams Central the next time they take the field. Burke will host Adams Central at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while Gretna East will play them later in the day, at 4:00 p.m.
