Soccer Game Preview: Gate City vs. Abingdon

Gate City hasn't had much luck against Abingdon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Gate City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.7 goals per game this season.

Gate City saw some tournament action on Tuesday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Blue Devils who were credited with the win. Gate City got it done in the shootout by posting two goals to Central Wise's one. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Gate City.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Isabella Hartsock, who's now up to 18 this season.

Abingdon's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 4-0 margin over John Battle. Considering Abingdon have won 11 matches by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Abingdon's victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Gate City, their win bumped their record up to 14-3-2.

Gate City couldn't quite get it done against Abingdon in their previous matchup two weeks ago as they fell 2-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
