Recap: Fremont Tigers vs. Bellevue East Chieftains
The Fremont Tigers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Bellevue East, falling 64-22. Fremont was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-11.
When it comes to explaining why Fremont lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matthea Dalton. Despite the final result, she scored two points along with 11 rebounds. Dalton has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Fremont struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Bellevue East was led to victory by Brani Jackson and TNiyah Wilson-Smith. Jackson scored 20 points along with three steals, while Wilson-Smith scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season. Mya Weber was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Fremont's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Bellevue East, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fremont will take on Lincoln Southwest at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln Southwest presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fremont in Nebraska (Lincoln Southwest is ranked 19th, while Fremont is ranked 204th). As for Bellevue East, they will head out on the road to square off against Millard South at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
