Jack Earl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Byers is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Earl was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Gabe Price was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Byers: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chas Butterfield, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Byers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Fort Lupton couldn't beat Fort Morgan on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Bluedevils lost 31-5 to the Mustangs. The loss continues a trend for the Bluedevils in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost eight in a row.
Jesse Ceretto was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Byers now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Fort Lupton, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Byers has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Lupton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
