Basketball Recap: Highland Takes a Loss

Highland lost against Mesa back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Hawks took a 74-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jackrabbits. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Highland lost, don't look at Tyson Cutchen. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Cutchen continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Grady Crandall was another key player, putting up nine points.

Mesa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Innocent Onwo led the charge by going 6-for-8 to rack up 17 points. Thanks to that strong game, Onwo now owns an excellent 48.4% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Joshua Stewart, who shot 75% from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Highland will face off against Campo Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mesa, they will challenge Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
