Football Recap: Jackson Comes Up Short

After flying high against LeFlore last Friday, Jackson came back down to earth. The Aggies took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Michael Catholic Cardinals on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (33), the Aggies still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Jackson lost, don't look at Ezavier Crowell. Despite the final result, he rushed for 336 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 16.8 yards per carry. Crowell's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 119 rushing yards dating back to last season. Landon Duckworth also deserves a shout-out for his two scores.

St. Michael Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gunner Rivers led the charge by throwing for 300 yards and five TDs. Braedyn Walton did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 129 receiving yards.

Jackson's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for St. Michael Catholic, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Jackson and St. Michael Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Aggies will face off against Orange Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (22 vs. 147). Meanwhile, St. Michael Catholic (ranked 27th) will meet Mobile Christian (ranked 97th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
