Baseball Game Preview: Bandys Trojans vs. Bunker Hill Bears

For the second straight game, Bandys will face off against Bunker Hill. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Bandys didn't have quite enough to beat Bunker Hill and fell 4-3.

For Bunker Hill's part, Ross Fickling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. Fickling has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kamden Bortz and Corey Canipe did most of the damage at the plate: Bortz scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Canipe went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Canipe a new career-high.

Bandys has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bunker Hill, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-10 record.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bandys has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bunker Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts.
