Baseball Recap: Portola Takes a Loss

Portola had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-14 to make it four. They lost 10-1 to the Laguna Beach Breakers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Breakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 on Wednesday.

Portola saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keyan Park, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Laguna Beach, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Laguna Beach's side, Becker Sybirski made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sybirski has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Parker Moore and Lincoln Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Moore went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Adams got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Moore a new career-high. Otis Boultinghouse was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Coming up, Portola will take on Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Laguna Beach, they will square off against El Rancho at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
