Recap: Newport Cubs vs. Tillamook Cheesemakers
The Newport Cubs were the 48-40 winner over the Tillamook Cheesemakers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Newport fell 49-38 to Tillamook on Tuesday. Newport has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Tillamook found their leader in underclassman Aubrey Hilton, who scored 14 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hilton has scored at least 25% of Tillamook's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Vogel, who scored ten points along with six steals.
Newport's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Tillamook, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Newport will head out on the road to face off against St. Helens at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oregon (St. Helens is ranked 149th, while Newport is ranked 163rd). As for Tillamook, they will take on Elma at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Elma comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
