Rosary Academy's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Portola. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Phillips looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Liliana Santos, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Jenna Caldera was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Rosary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Woodbridge earned a 4-0 win over Irvine on Monday. The Warriors have beaten the Vaqueros the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vaqueros has come to flipping the script.
Payton Harris was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Song, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Rosary Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Woodbridge, their win bumped their record up to 10-8-1.
Woodbridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rosary Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. It's a different story for Woodbridge, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Rosary Academy's hitters?
