Basketball Recap: Kongiganak Comes Up Short

If Kongiganak was riding high fresh off their 27-0 takedown of Chief Paul Memorial on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Kongiganak Wolverines were dealt a 57-29 loss at the hands of the Kwigillingok Eagles on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Kongiganak still got an impressive performance from Gracelyn Miller, who posted 18 points. That was a full 62.1% of Kongiganak's points, marking the third time in a row Miller has earned more than a third of the team's points.

Kwigillingok's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kennice Anaver led the charge by putting up 28 points. Anaver has become a key player for Kwigillingok: the team is undefeated when she posts at least 15 points, but 2-3 otherwise. Jasmine Andrew was another key player, scoring 19 points.

Kongiganak's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Kwigillingok, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Kongiganak wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 12-0 victory against Lewis Angapak on the 15th. As for Kwigillingok, they have also already played their next match, a 37-0 win against Chief Paul Memorial on the 15th.
