Baseball Recap: Phillips Comes Up Short

Phillips extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They came up short against the Assumption Royals, falling 15-4. If the Loggers were looking for revenge after losing 13-6 to the Royals when the teams met back in April of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Assumption, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

For Assumption's part, Chase Leberg and Camden Martin made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Leberg pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Martin struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. At bat, Leberg went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Martin went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Leberg is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JJ Oswald, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Oswald is crushing it when it comes to RBI: he's brought in at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Braeden Peters, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Phillips and Assumption will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Loggers are set to challenge their familiar foe Prentice at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Assumption will face off against rival Marathon at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
