Softball Game Preview: Perrydale Pirates vs. Kennedy Trojans

Perrydale hasn't had much luck against Kennedy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kennedy will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Perrydale extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Pirates put the hurt on Western Christian with a sharp 21-6 win.

Meanwhile, Kennedy made easy work of Country Christian on Friday and carried off an 11-1 victory.

Grace Traeger made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Brianna Traeger was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Audrey Brenden was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Country Christian only posted an OBP of .240.

Perrydale's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Kennedy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Perrydale might still be hurting after the 16-3 loss they got from Kennedy in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
