Basketball Recap: Tennyson Takes a Loss

Tennyson lost against Hayward back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Tennyson Lancers took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hayward Farmers. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1044th, while the Farmers are ranked 375th).

Despite the loss, Tennyson still got an impressive performance from James Walker, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Walker has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Lorje, who posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Tennyson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Hayward, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tennyson will take on San Lorenzo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hayward, they will face off against Encinal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hayward's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
