Softball Recap: Elizabeth Minutemen vs. Governor Livingston Highlanders
Elizabeth had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it nine. They came up short against the Governor Livingston Highlanders, falling 18-5. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, with their most recent defeat being a 21-4 loss on April 8th.
As for Governor Livingston, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-3. Considering they have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Governor Livingston's part, the team relied heavily on Chelsea Kiesewetter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Gardner, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elizabeth will face off against Dayton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Governor Livingston, they will take on Summit at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hilltoppers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Highlanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
