League recap: Citrus wins, gets boost in standings

Citrus was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 6A District 5. Earlier in the week, the Hurricanes triumphed over Lecanto 33-0.

Gainesville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lake Weir, 44-22. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

The Hurricanes' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ben Mangum threw for 70 and two touchdowns and Khamel Reynolds had 81 yards receiving. On the ground Tre Taylor chipped in 26 yards. Shawn Evans helped Lake Weir's passing attack out by catching five balls for 65 yards.

Lake Weir's Cutler Blackburn and Evans have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Blackburn has thrown for 356 yards this season, while Evans has 21 catches for 243 yards. Breon Whaley from Citrus leads the league in rushing with 346 yards.

Gainesville led 6A District 5 in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on Jason Robinson's team.
